Two years after the US launch of Amazon Prime Reading, the company has launched Prime Reading in India.
The program, which allows Prime members to read unlimited e-books from a Kindle or any device with the Kindle app installed, adds to other well-known Prime features also recently made available from Amazon India: Amazon Video and Amazon Music. The company also began offering Kindle Unlimited subscriptions (which are not part of Amazon Prime memberships) in the country in late 2015, a little over a year after the service launched in the US.
In India, Amazon Prime currently retails for 129 rupees per month (approximately $1.78) or 999 rupees per year (approximately $13.76). As the membership plan has released access to other additional services, pricing has increased. But the expansion of offerings indicates an increasing interest in the country.
Based on the continued increase of services and products available to Amazon India customers, it's likely we'll continue to see US offerings brought to the country.
